My History of art

Colourful Bonds

I was introduced to art by my father as a young child, as young as 4 if I remember correctly. I became fascinated with the way my father could tear out a blank sheet of paper from a sketchbook, lay it on top of one of his vinyl record covers (not the classics). He believed it was a better and much smoother workspace when compared to the dining table.

He would lay out one simple grade of pencil, a sharpener and an eraser. Then my father would use these tools to create the most memorable sketches, full of depth, insane talent of shading and an eye for detail. We would spend weekends side by side, laying on either the lounge or bedroom floor sketching away, sharing notes, comparing and me thriving off my father's compliments, all whilst listening to reggae music. I share this very similar experience with my family, but now we use our dining table!

Art remained my passion during school and I went on and studied Art and Design in London. This is where I gained a huge passion for surrealism and abstract art. After my studies, I came to the realisation that I wanted to keep my art just for me and not as a job.

Fast-forwarding to 2020, I took the leap to rediscover my art and techniques. As an artist, I have leaned towards abstract because it gives me the freedom to express myself and create my own world of depth, imagination. I can finally create pieces that are not obvious to the eye. With this newfound confidence, I opened the door for everyone to see and enjoy incredible art. This isn't just a job, it’s a performance of the great Art by Diah.

Inspiration and Style

My art consists of using mixed mediums – high-quality acrylic paints, spray paint, and Alcohol Inks to bring together various textures, layers and tones. I like to work on both canvas and boards.

My inspiration comes from my love for subjects of Cubism and the bright colours of Pop Art. My style is a mix of Geometric abstraction and Architectural structures. I enjoy the relationships between lines, surface, constructional elements of composition, all of which are allowing abstract space.

My style consists of solid and opaque geometric blocks of vivid colours, layering of fluid brush strokes and blends, creating various lines to give depth, dimension and space for lighting.
