The Diah Art Journey

Creating a new piece of art is like "taking a flight"

Arrival

When I first have an idea, things can get overwhelming. There are crowds of concepts, colours, tones, textures all at once. I use important, colourful ideas to map out on one piece, I don't want to miss or leave behind any items.

Boarding

I like to sit, take depth breaths and relax with my ideas. Some moments are calm and collective, other moments I will have bursts of excitement visualising my final piece, narrowing in on my final destination. I think "where will I benefit from gaining the best view, the best angles?" - window or aisle seat? It doesn't matter, because I can take a walk to explore further. You don't have to remain seated at all times with your creations.

Take-Off

I have my concept, I see my coordinates all lined up and I start to run with it. Colours spark, tones start to blend, my motivation takes speed and away I go. I want to give everyone an unique perspective of my world and to capture what I see during my journey.

Turbulence is normal

It has taken me a long time to understand that having a few bumps in the air is ok. Moments of frustration challenge me to create greater art than I first had during take off, these challenges gives me the strength and motivation to execute any piece of work to my fullest capacity.

"Are we there yet?"

As an artist, I can never be too sure if a piece is finished. I examine my work for long periods, walk from one angle to the other, view in different lighting and study my colour palette. I think "are we there yet, is it finished?" For me, it is very important to give my clients the fully tailored, VIP package - detail, the full story, best view from all angles, giving the ability to discover hidden gems within my art. I want my buyers to buy into my journey and introduce my art to a new space to share with others and give the full thumbs up.

Landing

The idea is to not come crashing down and to rush when finalising my artwork. I like to deliver my art in a smooth, non-turbulent manner that is dust-free, clean edges, the steady decision to varnish or not. The last touches are naming my art and my last contact with my canvas to be when I add my signature. It's an amazing feeling when completing an art piece, a sense of great achievement where I can truly give myself that round of applause.
